Walk from the door: To Rubh a' Ghiuthais

The cabin is ideally placed for low level and coastal walks from the door. The walk to Rubh a' Ghiuthais view point is mainly on rough track through rocky ground, across burns, with spectacular coastal scenery. The full circular walk is more of a challenge.  The short walk allow about 50 minutes. The circular walk allow about 1.5 hrs.

  • The track is rough and can be very wet depending on the time of year and weather conditions.

  • Please keep to the path.

  • Turn right out of the cabin driveway and follow the tarmac road.

  • Continue along the road past a sign which says ‘End of public road’.

  • The tarmac runs out and changes to an unmade track, look for a small sign on the right indicating ‘Path to Diabaig’.

  • Follow this path up and around the back of the white cottage, through a wooded area.

  • Cross over the burn (this can be difficult to cross depending on the amount of rain).

  • Look for the metal gate, go through the gate and follow the track as it starts to ascend.

  • Soon the track levels out and far reaching views emerge out across the loch and to the mountains beyond.

  • The track continues across a couple more burns, eventually reaching a rocky outcrop. Views along the loch to Torridon in the distance, the fish farm below and to the right the narrow passage of water between each side of the loch ‘the narrows’.

  • Retrace your steps back along the same path.

  • The circular route is more of a challenge due to the track being less defined with some steep sides.

  • Follow the track which descends then climbs up through heather with a steep drop to the side.

  • Keep a look out for a track off to the right through the heather. It is easy to miss and is difficult to traverse due to the steep hillside.

  • Eventually the track levels out and is easier to follow across a couple of streams.

  • The path ascends towards a metal gate, and then down into a wooded area and across a stream.

  • Out onto open ground the path crosses another stream, then passes to the front of a cottage next to the road.

  • At the road turn right down the hill and follow the road past ‘Midwest Cottage’ back the the cabin.
